Who We Are

The Ram Way

💪

Compete Hard

We give everything on every play. Ram athletes train year-round and compete with relentless effort and determination.

🤝

Team First

Individual glory means nothing without the team. Every Ram puts their teammates above themselves.

📚

Student-Athlete

We're students first. Academic eligibility and character off the field matter as much as performance on it.

Ram Pride

Ram Pride

Ram pride runs deep. We represent our school, our community, and our city with pride every time we compete.

🔄 Transfer Student-Athlete Eligibility Guide
Welcome to Mount Rainier High School Athletics.
If your student transferred to MRHS after starting 9th grade, they must complete important steps before competing. Transfer eligibility is not automatic — students may practice in some cases, but cannot compete until officially cleared.
📖 WIAA Handbook (pp. 37–40)

Register at highline-wa.finalforms.com or via the FinalForms tab on mrhsathletics.org.

  • Select your student's sports for the upcoming year
  • Complete all required parent and student forms
  • Fully complete the Transfer Eligibility section — this is critical

Reviewed by both schools and, if needed, by the West Central District III or WIAA. You will be asked to provide:

  • Previous school and athletic participation history (last 12 months)
  • Reason for transfer
  • Current and previous residence information
  • Family situation details, if applicable
Important: Incomplete or unclear responses will delay eligibility. False information may result in a one-year suspension (WIAA Rule 28.4.1).
  • Proof of residency (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.)
  • Documentation of a move, if applicable
  • Legal documents — custody orders, court orders, etc.
  • Any additional information that helps explain your situation

Strong documentation is essential for a smooth determination and critical if an appeal becomes necessary.

Bona fide family move
Entire family unit physically relocates — full varsity eligibility.
One year continuous attendance
After attending MRHS for one full calendar year without interruption.
Parent divorce/separation
One-time change of residence between parents after 9th grade — full eligibility.
Court-ordered placement
Ward of court, DSHS, juvenile parole, or government assignment.
Death in family unit
Change of residence required due to death of a family member.
Window of transfer
Natural break between school years — 40% varsity sit-out in prior sports. Cannot use mid-year. (WIAA Rule 18.12.2.9)
Hardship appeal
None of the above apply — file a formal appeal with the WIAA district eligibility chair.
Window of transfer penalty: Student sits out first 40% of varsity contests in sports previously participated in. This cannot be appealed (WIAA Rule 18.12.2.9.B). Using hardship instead forfeits window access and triggers full one-year varsity ineligibility (Rule 18.13.0).
📖 View Full WIAA Handbook (pp. 37–40)
  • Our office reviews your submission and contacts your student's previous school
  • Additional information may be requested
  • If an appeal is needed, we will help walk you through the process step by step
Reminder: Students may practice in some cases, but cannot compete until eligibility is officially confirmed. Connect with your coach and the Athletic Director early.
